Civil War

CIVIL WAR

Nothing is cooler to me than bands who do a good job blending NY-style hardcore with Thrashy riffs. That might be why I like Civil War so much. These dudes are from Australia, and while there are definitely some real cool Aussie hardcore bands right now, Civil War is probably my favorite. Their 2011 demo is 5 songs long and each track wrecks shop. Musically very reminiscent of bands like Meltdown, Violation, etc. One thing I really like about this demo is that all the tracks clock in under three minutes. A lot of bands who play this style get into playing 6 or 7 minute long tracks and it just gets to be a little too much. Civil War keeps it short and to the point which I absolutely love. This demo is riffy as hell and you can hear some big time Slayer worship in certain moments. Hopefully these dudes make it to the States sometime soon. Check ‘em out.

Always Try

ALWAYS TRY

Always Try are a rad band from Southern California. I met these dudes while on the west coast last summer and they are super rad guys. They put out a demo early last year and followed it up in November with the “Earthbound” EP. The EP is 5 tracks of groovy, riffy, fun youth crew. Definitely some LOC vibes going on with the new EP too, some of the riffs on the record scream major Mental influence. My favorite track on the EP is the opener, “Intro/Expressions”, because the riff and the way it grooves remind me a lot of Crunch Time which is super cool. I’m gonna get to see these guys in San Jose this summer and I can’t wait. Will most definitely be bustin’ out a skank or two. Keep an eye on these guys, they’re awesome.

Listen to the EP and their Demo at their bandcamp.

You can pick up the Earthbound EP on Cassette through Crackin’ Up Tapes
